Obituary for Bud Vakiner

Memorial Mass for Bud Vakiner age 66 of Snyder, NE will be held on Wednesday, July 18th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Snyder, NE with Fr. Keith Rezac as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Leo’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 pm to 7 pm with the family present, with a Vigil Service at 7 pm, all at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Bud passed away on Friday, July 13th at his home surrounded by his family.

Clifford (Bud) Vakiner was born on March 13, 1952 in Omaha, NE. He was the son of Clifford C. and Alice (Woerner) Vakiner. Bud attended Snyder Public School for his elementary education, and graduated from Snyder High School in 1970. Bud worked for Prenzlow and Sons until 1972, the following September he started working for Iowa Beef Processors/Tyson in West Point for 34 years. After the closing of the Tyson, he worked at Danko Emergency Company in Snyder for 10 years.

On July 10, 1971, Clifford (Bud) Vakiner married Donna Mendlik at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE.

Bud was an avid hunter. He coached numerous little league baseball teams, but most of all he loved having his grandkids around.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years and his three sons and families. Brandon (Jamie) and girls Ella and Ava, of Iowa City, IA, Trenton (Ellie) and girls Abbi and Claire, of Blair, NE, Dustin (Kelsey) and children Gracie, Luke and Logan, of Central City, NE. Sisters- Vickie (Delwin) Smeal of Snyder, NE, and Cathy (Robin) Groene of Howells, NE, half-brother- Russel (Christina) Vakiner of Phoenix, AZ, step-mother- Vernice Stumpe of Scribner, NE, step-brothers and sisters-Randall Killingsworth of Snyder, NE, Jerry Killingsworth of Roy, WA, Cindy Vrba of Schuyler, NE and Sherri Killingsworth of Fremont, NE, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, the memorials may directed to the family for future designation in Bud’s name.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Immanuel Hospital and UNMC in Omaha, Minnick Funeral Home for all their help and care in this difficult time. An extra special thanks to Mike and Cheryl Vacha and their families for all the help they have given me and my family.
