Margie Mary nee-Volse (Spulak) Kucera, the daughter of Joe and Mary (Placek) Volse, was born September 21, 1925 at rural Stanton, NE. She departed this life on February 7, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

Margie was born and raised in the Stanton area, and attended rural schools. Margie loved to sing, and as a small child, she sang for the thrashers when they came together for harvest.

Margie married Lumir L. Spulak on June 8, 1943 and they raised four children. She married Victor J. Kucera on December 2, 1969.

Margie loved to garden, and did early gardening and canning for the family when her children were growing up. She also enjoyed doing embroidery on tea towels, pillow cases and dresser scarves.

The hobby she most enjoyed was keeping scrapbooks of weddings, anniversaries and funerals of the area, movie stars of the time, and events happening in Dodge and surrounding area. Many of Margie’s scrapbooks were donated to the Dodge Co. Historical Society in Fremont, NE. She also wrote down, in a spiral notebook, many songs in Czech language. Margie was also an active member of the Dodge American Legion Auxiliary for 49 years.

Margie is survived by one son Lumir A. Spulak and daughter in law Elberta of Schuyler; three daughters; Loretta Sorensen of Scribner; Janet Loontjer and son in law Edwin of Columbus; and Marilyn Hannon of Omaha. 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister Viola, who passed in October of 1929; husbands Lumir Spulak and Victor Kucera; and son in law Jim Sorensen.
