Condolence From: CMSgt Chuck Lambert
Condolence: I was shocked when I opened my local news paper this morning and saw Bernie's obituary. I had the pleasure of knowing him while he was stationed at LRAFB. In 1987 I was a new C-130 Loadmaster Instructor associated with the 189th Airlift Wing, 154th Training Squadron of the Arkansas Air National guard. Our unit had just transitioned from the KC-135 to the C-130. Our Unit was tasked with teaching a portion of all crew position students that came to LRAFB for C-130 training. Bernie Hunke was my first student. He probably knew as much or more about the airplane at that time than I did. I knew from the start that he was a fine young man and enjoyed the time we had together. After his training was completed I would still get to visit with him at our local (Conway, AR) Lowes store where he worked part time. Its amazing how our God puts people in our lives and I thank Him for that. He was a good soldier and did his part for our Nation. I know He will be missed by all family and friends. God Speed Bernie Hunke!

Condolence: Lisa and the family, Ann & Craig and Marybeth, I am so sorry for your loss. Bernie was a class act - a kind, caring, and sharing person. My siblings and I grew up with the Hunke crew and have many fun memories of us playing at each others' farms as little kids and growing up together. I had the honor of reconnecting with Bernie after he and Lisa moved back to West Point to raise their family. Josie would always laugh and tell mom and I stories about Bernie and his daughters. She loved that Bernie and Lisa had wonderful daughters. Bernie will be greatly missed. Sending all my love to all of you. Sincerely, Jean Meister-Westermann (Melvin and Delores Meister's daughter)

Condolence: My heart has been heavy since hearing the news Sunday morning. You all are continually in my prayers. I remember the first time I met Bernie. He came to our house with Lisa and 2 of his Air Force buddies for a 4th of July party. I immediately liked him. I was so happy when he and Lisa started dating and eventually married. I know he loved her and the girls so very much. I'm sad that it's been so long since I have seen him, but I rest peacefully knowing I will one day see him again in Heaven. May God surround all of you with peace, comfort and love while your grieve the loss of a wonderful man.

Love, Belinda "Bee" Shelton
