Karl passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. Joseph's Hillside Villa in West Point, NE.

Karl Ludwig Maack was born November 27, 1955 to Donald and Audrey (Ludwig) Maack at West Point, NE. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, West Point. He attended West Point Schools and graduated in 1975. Karl was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and helped teach the preschool Sunday School children for many years.

Karl lived on the farm, helping his parents and doing various jobs until 1978, when he went to work at the West Point News. Karl worked for Dick and Gwen Lindberg and later for Tom and Michele Kelly for a total of 40 years. Karl’s illness forced him to retire in 2018.

Karl moved into his own apartment in West Point in 2011. When he became ill, he moved into his mother’s home in December of 2018.

Karl did volunteer work at Grace Lutheran Church and at North Star. As he went for his daily walks, he would pick up litter around the West Point Community Theatre, the Sunshine Senior Center, and various other places. Karl was also a long time member of the Walk Stars Relay for Life Team in Cuming County.

Karl possessed a remarkable memory; being able to recall significant dates and places with ease. During conversations, he would often associate someone with their special birthdate or anniversary. Many were astonished with what he could remember! It was truly a gift!

I want to take time to remember Karl. He remembered everyone. During my intervals as Interim Pastor at St. Paul's in "98 and again in 2008 he was an important feature in the West Point community. He was a "watchman" and a "witness" and took an interest in everyone and everything. I am sorry for his illness and your loss. The love of our Lord Jesus heals and comforts. May we all remember that. The Lord bless and keep you and surround you with that love which was so evident in Karl. Pastor Dennis Maaske

Heartfelt sympathies rest with you, Audrey, and all of Karl’s family. So many moments of visiting with your dear son were shared times of concern for others and joyful news of friends in common. God blessed him with a remarkable memory that blessed us when we met . May the love of family and friends, because of our wonderful Savior, Christ Jesus, sustain you in your loss and grant you comfort and peace in the days ahead.
In Christian sympathy, Lori Predoehl

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Karl at West Point News for ten years and he was a joy to be around. He was a very intelligent individual and you couldn't trip him up on any birthday dates or years or any kind of history. As I remember, he loved Marilyn Monroe. He was a hard worker and had a gentle soul. Sympathy to the family from Patty (Frank) Stary.
